Giving Tuesday–a new holiday tradition?

 #givingtuesday

#GivingTuesday™ (#GT) is a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The second annual #GivingTuesday is on December 3, 2013. In the same way that retail stores take part in Black Friday, the intention of this day is to have the giving community to come together for #GivingTuesday.   As word of this new philanthropic holiday spreads will it grow beyond the novelty of last year’s effort?  It indeed should, positioned intentionally to juxtapose the commercialism that tends to lead into the holiday season in this country, #Giving Tuesday returns the focus to the heart of Thanksgiving and the following holidays–How can we give thanks by helping others?  This new day gives us a moment to pause and think “How do we support those organizations important to ourselves and our communities?”  With 60 days left until #Giving Tuesday, are you making plans to give back both on that day and throughout the new year?
